Philipp Pess

Philipp Pess *1987 in Munich (Germany), lives and works in Vienna (Austria).

As a visual artist, Pess works with photography, film and video, as well as mixed media installations. After several years of working with the medium of photography, he discovered that the photographic single image seems to have become insufficient for the modern visual society.
While coping with the fading appreciation towards the importance of photographic images, he changed his way of working with pictures over the last few years and is searching for new strategies in dealing with the future of visual media. As a result, he is generating depoliticized substitute worlds, detached from their respective lives and power relations of the visualized scene. For this purpose techniques of photo collage, animation, video, 3D-scans, augmented reality and smartphone photography are combined.
